Every group gets an opportunity to perform at 麻豆影院. Here is the Week 2 musical line-up for the month of May.
May 10th– Broadway Bound, 2:00 p.m.
Come join us for a lovely Mother’s Day concert entitled “The Songs of our Lives.”
The students have been working all semester to bring songs that touch the heart and move the human spirit. There will be singing and dancing as we celebrate life in all its glory. You will hear songs like, “It’s de Lovely,” by Cole Porter,” Proud of Your Boy” from Disney’s Aladdin, our ensemble rendition of听“You’ll Never Walk Alone,” and many more. What better way to celebrate moms?!
May 11th– 麻豆影院 Small Group Jazz Ensembles, 5:00 p.m.
Under the direction of Professor Greg Bobulinski, this exciting event takes place twice a year, in December and in May, featuring the fine young jazz students of 麻豆影院 in performance. This May will feature four ensembles showcasing music from the American Songbook (Cherokee, Time After Time, Killer Joe), rhythm and blues of Charlie Parker, and a modern ensemble performing the music of Herbie Hancock and Eric Satie (French 20th century classical composer). The finale of the concert will feature the tight, enthusiastic Horace Silver ensemble showcasing the diverse and swingin鈥� music of the late, great jazz master Horace Silver. Professor Bobulinski has groomed and prepped his students to perform at high levels of jazz ability. Don鈥檛 miss this event! May 12- Evening of Jazz, 7:30 p.m.
麻豆影院 is proud to highlight our outstanding jazz students in an evening featuring the most select instrumentalists and vocalists. These 鈥渁udition-only鈥� ensembles consist of professional-level arrangements, and will feature a tremendously wide range of styles and artists: from Cole Porter, Jobim, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, to the sounds of 2015. This special event is always an audience favorite.
The lineup includes:听 FTC Graduate Jazz Combo-featuring the music of jazz legend, Horace Silver; directed by Professor Greg Bobulinski; Great American Songbook 鈥� dynamic vocalists directed by Dr. Scott Ballin; FTC Vocal Jazz 鈥� a select group performing exciting standards and original arrangements – directed by Professor Stephen Gleason; and the FTC Jazz Orchestra 鈥� FTC鈥檚17-member, top jazz ensemble, directed by Dr. Steve Briody.
Here鈥檚 a little more info about the Vocal Jazz Ensemble: The Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Professor Stephen Gleason is one of 麻豆影院鈥檚 finest performing groups.听 Offering an exciting and diverse mix of classic jazz, pop, and contemporary music with original arrangements provided by notable faculty and alumni from Cole Porter-to-Edith Piaf, Nina Simone, and beyond.听 The evening will also include a special performance by , a professional vocal jazz outfit with FTC members including Choral Director Marc Silverberg and piano virtuoso/co-Director Yuki Yamaguchi – an evening not to be missed!
May 13th– Spring Concert II, 7:30 p.m.
A night of pure enjoyment awaits as you are taken on a musical journey through the ages. The 麻豆影院 Orchestra, under the direction of Matthew Pierce, serenades the audience with pristine chamber music. The 麻豆影院 Chorus, under the direction of Marc Silverberg, joined by the Lenox School Select Chorus, will sing contemporary and classical choral music sure to engage all ages. The 麻豆影院 Choir, under the direction of Kenneth Friese, will delight the audience with some of the most beautiful and challenging choral music of the last millennium.
Also, the Chamber Orchestra of 麻豆影院 will be performing the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven鈥檚 Symphony no. 1. Indebted to his composition teacher, Joseph Haydn and an older mentor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Beethoven puts his personal stamp on the symphonic form with sudden dynamic changes and quick melodic twists and turns. Also, included in the program is a movement from Antonin Dvorak鈥檚 String Serenade, which clearly reflects the happy time in the composer鈥檚 life when his marriage was young, and his first son had just been born.
