FTC Presents Godspell ~ 11/5 – 11/8 – 11/13 – 11/15

Join聽the award-winning 麻豆影院 Theater聽Division聽on a journey of empowerment, self-confidence, community, fellowship and love. Come聽witness聽the power of community by being a聽part of this musical theater experience at the聽fabulous聽Five Towns聽College聽Performing Arts Center聽in Dix Hills, N.Y.Performances are聽November 5, 6, 7聽13聽and 14聽at聽7:30聽p.m.聽and November 8聽and 15聽at 2:00聽p.m.
Godspell聽is a fun-filled musical written by Stephen Schwartz;聽the聽book聽was written聽by John-Michael聽Tebelak.聽On May 17, 1971, it opened Off-Broadway. It聽has聽toured聽and聽was聽made into a revival ever since聽then. In 2011,聽the聽Godspell聽revival made its way聽to Broadway! It lasted almost a year and聽was聽released over the years for all theaters to use. One of the show鈥檚 songs, 鈥淒ay by Day,鈥 even reached #13 on the Billboard pop singles chart in 1972.
This musical is about a series of parables聽i.e. short stories that teach a moral or spiritual lesson,聽based mainly on the Gospel of Matthew. The parables are dressed up by improvisation and a variety of modern music set to fit with the passion of Christ.聽Throughout the show, Judas, played by聽FTC student,聽Londel Collier, and Jesus, played by聽FTC student,聽Domenic Pellegrini,聽are聽never on the same page. Judas believes he can always beat out Jesus;聽unfortunately,聽in the end all of the disciples turn on Jesus.
This production of聽Godspell,聽is directed by聽the esteemed and very talented聽Professor聽Marie Danvers.聽Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors and students.
