While digital is still number one when it comes to music distribution, vinyl’s popularity is due to the quality of listening.

Why is it so important to keep your vinyl records clean? Well, for one is the sound of the record, which can sound fuzzy or even skip when the record has imperfections. So when cleaning your vinyl, be on the lookout for fingerprints. Another problem is dust, which can damage the sound and alter how vinyl spins on the player. According to magazine, scratches on the record itself are serious. And one of the major reasons vinyl goes bad is when people put them in storage for a long time, causing them to play no longer.

Learn why you should improve your social media habits in 2023.听

Whether sitting, standing, or lying down, you鈥檝e spent time scrolling through social media. Mindlessly closing one app to open another 鈥� when suddenly that 鈥�30-minute break鈥� turns into hours.

It might seem harmless, but research says otherwise. This habit is actually a sign that social media is changing our brains. Ten years ago, we spent just over an hour per day on social media. Now, in 2022, reports that number is up to three hours. That鈥檚 more than double the we spend eating and drinking each day. As the time we spend online grows, so do the effects on our brains.

It Messes With Your Reward Center

Each like, tag, or positive comment provides immediate social rewards in the form of (the happiness hormones). This reaction makes you feel good, so your brain will want more. Losing likes and comments can cause anxiety or depression because our brain isn鈥檛 getting that emotional rush anymore.

FOMO (the fear of missing out) also plays a big role, possibly leading to an unhealthy addiction to social media, especially in teenagers. says that 97% of teens use the internet daily, and 46% use it almost constantly. Many fear that they鈥檒l miss out on jokes, connections, or social invitations in the real world by not being online.

It Ruins Multi-Tasking and Focus

We can only focus on so much at a time, and apps like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook don鈥檛 help. They have an almost endless stream of photos and videos with captions, comments, and hashtags in each post. When our brains are in a constant state of our ability to stay focused worsens.

Studies by the show heavy social media users are becoming less able to ignore distractions. These efforts to stay focused can ultimately shrink parts of the brain used for concentration, a change known as neuroplasticity.

It Causes Phantom Vibrations

Another common development is 鈥淧hantom Vibration Syndrome.鈥� That鈥檚 when you think your phone is ringing, but it isn鈥檛. 听At the Georgia Institute of Technology,听Professor studies the impact social media has on our behavior.

Many people are so worried about missing calls or texts that they become fixated on sensations that mean one is coming. Rosenberger says simple things like body itches or clothes shifting can be easily misinterpreted as a phone vibration, supported in a . Their research shows that 60% of medical students have experienced phantom vibrations, and 42% heard phantom ringing after high phone use.

7:30 AM

Barely woke up on time, took a shower, and got into my cosplay. Shaved my beard down to a goatee for the finishing touch and put a jacket on over my cosplay so I don鈥檛 look too out of place on the train.听 Booked it out of the house to make my 8:25 AM train, parked just as the train arrived, and just barely made it in as the train doors closed.

10:00am

Finally, I made it to Penn Station. It鈥檚 funny walking around in the crowds with a plastic katana sticking out of my backpack. I definitely received a couple of odd looks. But you can clearly see who鈥檚 going to Comic Con and who鈥檚 not.

10:45 AM

Entered the Javits Center. It鈥檚 overwhelming to see so many people dressed up in cosplay in one place. I鈥檓 going to head to the designated area to get some autographs and photos with some actors and famous people and then check out the main hall.

11:30 AM

Waiting in line to meet Max Mittleman, Voice actor. Hopefully, it doesn鈥檛 take too long because the lines around me are all ridiculously long. Just around me, I can see lines for Steve Burns from Blues Clues, Tom Kennedy, the voice of听SpongeBob SquarePants, and Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes in the MCU (Marvel cinematic universe).

听

12:10 AM

Max had to leave, but he will be back in an hour. They gave me a ticket to skip to the front line when he returns. Going to wait in line to meet Chris Sabat in the meantime.

听

1 PM

I got to meet my favorite voice actor, Chris Sabat. I had him autograph a notebook for me and an art print he had for sale. I was so starstruck meeting him that I could barely get in a sentence. He complimented my cosplay as he recognized it as one of the characters he voices. All I could say was that it was an honor to meet him.

1:30 PM

I was able to cut to the front of the line for Max Mittleman now that he has come back. Scored his autograph and also was able to get some selfies with him.听 He was very charismatic, and we had a great conversation.

2 PM

My good friend Christian finally made it to the Javits Center, so we met at the main entrance and did a lap around the main hall. While we were a walking meme, we decided to take some pictures and videos with some other cosplayers for TikTok.

After walking around for a while, we checked out the booths and considered buying some stuff. I ended up buying two Funko pop figurines, and after convincing my friend not to buy a $280 Lightsaber, he decided to buy a $50 wooden replica sword.

5 PM

All the walking started getting to me, so I decided to get some food and sit down. While in line, we coincidentally ran into another friend, and she joined us for food and drinks.

6 PM

After getting some overpriced chicken tenders and taking a little break, Christian and I continued doing laps around the main hall and looked at more booths and cosplayers for about an hour.

7 PM

The main hall finally closed for the day, and we had enough walking around. We joined the mob of oddly dressed people leaving the convention center, headed back to Penn station, got on a train to Babylon, and went home.

It鈥檚 Day 2 at The Great South Bay Music Festival. In the early afternoon, food vendors and other tents started setting up for the day.

The Sunshine Stage opened today, and they are getting ready for the day’s performances. The band members of Samsara told the crowd, 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to be here today and can鈥檛 wait to get the crowd up and dancing!鈥� Samsara is an alternative rock band 听based on Long Island and Queens. Their sound channels a mix of contemporary and rock influences. Drummer Ben Bustamante said, “It was our first time performing at Great South Bay, but it was fun. I really enjoyed it!鈥�

Later in the afternoon, it started to rain, but that didn鈥檛 stop the show as Oogee Wawa rocked the stage with their energetic performance. Oogee Wawa is a fusion band based on Long Island that has influences from reggae, punk rock, and hip hop. The crowd was going wild as they had bubbles blowing, people dancing, and singing along. 听鈥淭his music keeps me alive and makes me feel happy even on my bad days,” said a听fan of the band named Jacob. 听鈥淚 wish they could perform live here every day!鈥�

There鈥檚 so much to discover down at The Great South Bay Music Festival. Beyond food and music, some creative artists want the world to see their art, such as Michael Lombardi. 听Lombardi is a fantasy artist from Medford, New York, who enjoys creating mythical creatures and landscapes in watercolor. 听He spoke about his inspirations, saying, 鈥淢y goal is to turn my paintings into a deck of oracle cards to give readings to people. I hope to get my paintings out there more to inspire people just like I was inspired by the stories of the mythical creatures my mom used to tell me.鈥�

The festival also has stations for the little ones to enjoy, such as face painting and games like tug of war, bean bag toss, and even spike ball.

 

 

The sky started to grow dark, but the crowd was singing, dancing, and overall having a great time as Steel Pulse blew the show away with their performance. Steel Pulse is a Reggae band from Birmingham, England. Steel Pulse was the first band from an inner British city to win Best Reggae Album for Babylon the Bandit听in 1986. Fan of the band, Tahlia Johnson, said Steel Pulse is her favorite band. 鈥淭he music just makes me feel like I don鈥檛 have to stress about anything negative that鈥檚 going on in the world; it鈥檚 sort of an escape for me.鈥�

As the night went on, everybody gathered around the main stage as the final band, Rebelution, put on an amazing show. Rebelution is a Reggae Rock music band from Isla Vista, California. The current members of Rebelution are Eric Rachmany, Rory Carey, Marley D. Williams, and Wesley Finely. The band won the #1 record five times in a row on the Billboard Reggae chart. The audience loved the show and sang along to almost every word.

Rebelution gives the audience a great final performance.

 

Overall, Day 2 turned out to be successful. The fans loved every bit of the performances. Food and drinks were selling out, and the fans can鈥檛 wait to see what Day 3 brings at The Great South Bay Music Festival.
